Our History And Ethos
Broadway Veterinary Surgery first opened in 1979 and has now been providing quality care to our clients and their pets for well over thirty five years. We are a community based, independent, dedicated small animal practice based on the Wirral.
In the early days Broadway was a one-vet single-site practice operating from our original site of 2 Broadway, Higher Bebington, Wirral. Mr Maloney took over the practice in 1997 and the practice continued to grow steadily. In 1999 Broadway was the first local practice to become fully open, seven days a week, following the amalgamation of the caseload from a local retiring veterinary surgeon. Additional branches were opened in Wallasey in 2004, then in Heswall in 2012, and finally our original site in Higher Bebington was replaced with a larger building, just across the road, at the end of 2014.
Currently we have eight vets working in the practice, with varying special interests from orthopaedics to soft tissue surgery and medicine, with some in the process of training for further specialist professional qualifications. In 2002 Broadway became a veterinary nurse training practice (TP) affiliated with Myerscough College in Preston. We currently have four student nurses, each going for day-release to Myerscough College, and at varying stages of their training. We also provide placement facilities for undergraduate degree-level veterinary nurses and student veterinary surgeons. Student nurses work in the practice for a time before starting the two year specialist course, and many of them stay with us after they qualify. All three of our branch head nurses trained with us and have continued to develop their careers within the practice.
Our dedicated team works hard to provide the high quality and individual care that all our clients and their pets expect of us. Broadway is a modern and progressive practice, proud to be independent and family-run, but with an unashamedly old-school ethos;
'If animals sicken seven days a week, we must treat them seven days a week'
Therefore all three of our practices are fully open seven days a week (8.30am to 6.30pm) for our registered clients. We further believe that all routine appointments, vaccinations and operations should also be available at weekends to our registered clients, at no additional cost, as we recognise that some clients are simply too busy through the traditional working week.
